Fighting “trade” pact threats to the environment
Enacting effective environmental policies to address the climate crisis is one of the world’s most urgent tasks – but international trade rules pose a serious threat to achieving climate goals.
Legal challenges through the World Trade Organization and other trade deals have forced countries to roll back policies designed to help build green energy systems and weakened critical environmental protections. Some trade agreements even allow corporations to sue entire countries for protecting the planet.
Our Climate Peace Clause campaign urges governments to sign binding commitments to refrain from using trade pact rules to challenge climate policies, while our End ISDS Campaign seeks to eliminate trade and investment rules that let corporations challenge environmental and other public interest regulations.
Now is the time to put people and the planet above corporate profit.
