Letters, Statements, and News/Blog Posts from Other Organizations Regarding Resident Duty Hours

In response to Public Citizen’s September 13, 2016 report on resident duty hours and related letter to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), several physician and patient organizations, and individual patient safety advocates, have posted statements, written news items or blog posts, or written to the ACGME expressing concerns about the harm of long work hours to both residents and patients. The organizations agreed with Public Citizen’s position that the current ACGME limit of 16 consecutive hours for first-year residents should remain in place, with most also agreeing with Public Citizen’s position that the 16-hour shift limit should apply to all residents.
