Public Citizen Praises Congress Members’ Timely Letter Urging President Biden to Address Postal Board Vacancies
Washington, DC — Public Citizen commends the recent letter sent by 82 members of Congress to President Biden urging him to promptly fill the vacancies on the United States Postal Service Board of Governors.
In the letter, members highlighted the critical importance of maintaining a fully functioning USPS Board of Governors to hold postal leadership accountable and advocate for the protection and expansion of the Postal Service.
Public Citizen supports this effort to address the vacancies promptly, as a fully functioning Postal Board is essential for ensuring the USPS’s ability to meet the diverse and evolving needs of our communities.
In response to this letter, Public Citizen executive vice president Lisa Gilbert issued the following statement:
“Under Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s leadership, the United States Postal Service continues to raise prices, threaten to close facilities, and make other changes that hinder the quality of the services provided.
“The USPS is not only a vital component of our nation’s infrastructure, but also a lifeline for countless individuals who depend on its services for the delivery of essential goods, medications, and other necessities.
“Now is the time for President Biden to nominate people to the Postal Board of Governors who will push for a more expansive and equitable Postal Service in the future.”
