Texas Gas Rush: CPS Energy
As part of its 2022 Resource Plan, San Antonio’s municipally-owned utility, CPS Energy, plans to build two new peaking gas plants with a combined 444 MW capacity. Since Bexar County is in nonattainment for ozone, CPS Energy is considering building its plants outside of the county. They are considering building the plants in Corpus Christi, Laredo, or Bay City. Public Citizen and our partners will continue to push for clean energy alternatives, including expanded energy efficiency and demand response, batteries, and renewable wind and solar energy.
