Alexander McCoy (he/him) is a policy and campaign strategist with over a decade of experience leading civic engagement efforts, managing complex advocacy campaigns, and developing legislative strategy. Most recently, he served as Senior Campaigns Director at NextGen America, where he led a team of hundreds of staff across eight states to register and mobilize young voters for the 2024 election. Previously, Alexander co-founded and served as Political Director of the veterans organization Common Defense, where he directed nationally significant campaigns, including persuading key legislators to initiate the first impeachment of Donald Trump, and to support major climate and democracy reforms. He also influenced the Democratic Party platform, led a national coalition that secured dozens of executive appointments, and managed multi-million-dollar budgets for grassroots organizing, paid communications, and civic engagement. In addition to his work in campaigns, he has served as an advisor to policymakers, helping to craft legislative solutions on issues such as climate policy, labor rights, and emerging issues like AI. His impact has been covered in Wall Street Journal reporter Alex Ward’s 2024 book The Internationalists, and Washingtonian Magazine described him as one of the “Most Influential People in Washington.”Alexander began his career in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served on Embassy duty in Saudi Arabia, Honduras, and Germany, and separated as a Sergeant. He later earned a Bachelor’s degree from Columbia University in the history of grassroots social movements.
