Global Trade Watch – Field Organizing Internship

Are you an activist at heart? Looking for a place to gain organizing experience? We’ve got the internship for you! Global Trade Watch is currently seeking field organizing interns.

General Description:

The field intern will work as a member of our national field team, developing professional grassroots and online organizing skills while helping to lead the fight against corporate globalization and the corporate trade agenda. Day-to-day activities will include: phone-banking, one-on-one conversations with activists, coordinating actions, and conducting target research. All interns will do some administrative support work in order to gain exposure to nonprofit operations.

Qualifications:

• Some demonstrated experience organizing, either online or with grassroots groups.
• Commitment to public interest and good government work.
• Good organizational, writing and communication skills.
• Basic understanding of Internet-based research and general computer skills.
• Can-do attitude and an ability to quickly to respond to new developments.
• A burning desire to fight corruption.

Prior study or interest in international trade, globalization, economics, law/pre-law, and/or social justice is desirable. Past interns have majored in: political science, government and international affairs, public policy, sociology, economics and statistics, but all majors are welcome to apply.

Conditions:

The office is located on the third floor and requires walking two flights of stairs and several blocks to and from congressional offices. GTW is a smoke-free workplace.

Expectations:

We expect that interns be able to work a minimum of 16 hours a week. Our internships generally follow the academic calendar (beginning and ending with each semester,) but there is some flexibility within that. We request at least an 8-week commitment, though interns may request to remain longer than one semester.

Compensation:

Public Citizen internships are available year round. Our internships are up to 40 hours a week for around eight weeks.  **We accept unpaid internship applications on a rolling basis and currently are accepting applications for paid internships for Winter 2024.**

Public Citizen offers unpaid internships (credit can be arranged) and a small number of paid internships ($17 an hour).  To be considered for a paid internship for Winter 2024, candidates must apply by November 17, 2023, and submit materials listed below.  Chosen applicants will be notified by Monday, December 11, 2023.

If you have completed the FAFSA, please also submit a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR).
