New Financial Disclosures Reveal AG Nominee Pam Bondi Represented Pfizer Raising New Conflict of Interest Concerns About DOJ Investigations

New Financial Disclosures filed by Attorney General-Nominee Pam Bondi raise major conflict of interest concerns about her relationship with drug manufacturer Pfizer, which has been involved in five recent Department of Justice investigations, according to Public Citizen’s Corporate Enforcement Tracker.

Bondi’s Public Financial Disclosure Report reveals that Bondi provided legal services to Pfizer, Inc. over the last year while working as Of Counsel to the law firm Panza, Maurer & Maynard. Bondi reported receiving $203,738 in income last year from Panza, Maurer & Maynard. On the Nominee Questionnaire that Bondi submitted to the Senate Judiciary Committee before appearing before Senators this week, Bondi stated that she has been “Of Counsel” with this firm since 2021. But Bondi did not disclose on her Senate Questionnaire or during her appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee that she had represented Pfizer, which could pose potential conflicts of interest with her position as Attorney General.

“These new revelations about Bondi’s legal representation of Pfizer raise major new questions about Bondi’s conflicts,” said Public Citizen Democracy Advocate Jon Golinger.  “What matters did Bondi help Pfizer with, did it have anything to do with DOJ’s investigations, and why didn’t she disclose any of this to the Senators in her Nominee Questionnaire or when she appeared before them?”

In addition to disclosing her work for Pfizer, Bondi’s Public Financial Disclosure Report also reveals, among other sources of income, that Bondi earned $1,067,000 last year as a lobbyist/consultant for Ballard Partners. Bondi disclosed that she represented six Ballard Partners clients over the last two years:  Alden Torch Financial, Florida Sheriff’s Association, Florida Sheriff’s Risk Management Fund, Safety Net DC, Major County Sheriffs of America, Inc., and iGas USA Inc. Public Citizen’s recent report “Conflicted Justice” identified 30 clients that Bondi has represented as a federal lobbyist for with Ballard Partners, including some with significant conflicts and contracts with the Department of Justice. Bondi did not list any of these relationships as potential conflicts to the Judiciary Committee.

“If Pam Bondi’s nomination as Attorney General proceeds, we fear she will be a driven loyalist to Donald Trump and take actions that reflect the needs of the entities she so recently represented,” Public Citizen Co-President Lisa Gilbert said yesterday during her testimony before Congress on Bondi’s nomination. “A well-functioning Justice Department should be tough on corporate crime and work to improve the lives of our communities.  The ability of the Attorney General to represent the interests of the American public must not be compromised. We depend on the DOJ to vigorously enforce our laws, hold corporate wrongdoers accountable, and protect the rule of law.”
