First Amendment

The First Amendment’s guarantee of free speech is fundamental to our democratic system of government. Public Citizen has litigated a variety of cases defending First Amendment rights, including the right of government employees to expose corruption or speak on issues of public concern, the right to use public streets and sidewalks, the right against compelled speech, and the right to be free from anticompetitive advertising restrictions designed to deny information to consumers. Read about our more recent cases here.

Since 1999, Public Citizen has also defended free speech on the Internet. Information on these cases is available here.
